Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology
The Federal Minister of Transport, Innovation and Technology is the highest telecommunications authority. According to the current distribution of duties, business is handled by Division III of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology which is also responsible for the subordinate Telecommunications Offices in Graz, Innsbruck, Linz and Vienna as well as for the Licensing Office.
The Federal Minister has the following functions:
- to lay down fundamental guidelines for the activities of the regulatory authority;
- to enact and administer regulations required for the implementation of international agreements, in particular on the usage of the frequency spectrum;
- to decide on appeals against notices by the Telecommunications Offices and the Office for Radio Systems and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment, unless an Independent Administrative Tribunal has jurisdiction.
The Telecommunications Offices are also responsible for enforcement of the administrative penal provisions of the TKG 2003.
The Licensing Office is responsible for deciding on applications for type approval of terminal equipment and radio systems.
