ENUM (Telephone Number to Universal Ressource Identifier Mapping)

Since May 17, 2005, enum.at provides ENUM domain delegations in the 780 number range. These delegations are a prerequisite for assigning the corresponding numbers.

The 780 number range is dedicated specifically to services under RTR's 6th Ordinance of May 12, 2004, which defines regulations for communication parameters, fees and premium-rate services. RTR announced this ordinance by making it available to the public. As mentioned above, the delegation of the corresponding ENUM domain is a requirement for assigning numbers in this range. No telephone services are required in the 780 number range, but at least one convergent service must be offered.

RTR-GmbH and enum.at, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Internet Foundation Austria (IPA), have concluded an agreement (see download at the bottom of the page) concerning the operation of the Austrian ENUM Domain (3.4.e164.arpa). This agreement can be regarded as the basis for the commercial use of ENUM-based Internet services in Austria. The commercial phase was launched on December 9, 2004. The agreement delegates the operation of the Austrian ENUM Domain to enum.at for a limited time period (until the end of 2007) and includes the policy framework defined by RTR-GmbH for the use of ENUM in Austria.

All domains used during the trial will be revoked automatically respectively not migrated to the commercial ENUM service. Users who wish to continue using their domains from the trial will have to re-register under the new terms and conditions. Further information can be found on the enum.at web site.

Addendum to ENUM Agreement

On April 18, 2006 RTR-GmbH and enum.at signed the addendum to the existing agreement that allows commercial usage of Infrastructure ENUM.

This now allows communication service providers to enter numbers of their subscribers in an own sub-domain and to add provider-relevant information (e.g. for routing or billing).

Extensions of the contract

In August 2007 the validity of the contract between RTR-GmbH and enum.at GmbH was extended for two more years until end of 2009. There was made another extension of the contract for two more years in September 2009, consequential until end of 2011.
