The European Commission

The European basis for the regulation of telecommunications

The European Commission has judicial influence in a number of areas which directly affect national regulatory authorities. It issues, for example, Directives on competitive practices in telecommunications markets which are legally binding for Austria. It can also interfere if a case being dealt with by a national regulatory authority cannot be concluded within a six month time limit. In this situation the commission would generally act according to Art 86 EG-V (abuse of a dominant market position).
