The first step towards digital satellite – ORF OK‘s Olympics Portal
The successful broadcast of ORF‘s own sports portal for the 2004 Olympic games in Athens via the Astra digital satellite illustrated quite impressively that MHP portals are not just being developed for terrestrial transmission. This portal was broadcast as the first satellite-based MHP service ever offered by an Austrian television station.
ORF‘s Olympics portal was offered as a 24/7 service, and ORF provided current results for all Olympic disciplines from August 13th to 29th. The content offered ranged from team rosters to athlete biographies, from sailing to military riding and Tae Kwon Do, as well as a historical overview of all summer Olympic Games held in modern times. A breakdown of medals won by country and discipline was also provided, as was a category containing comprehensive detailed information on all Austrian athletes taking part in the 2004 Olympic Games.
