II.3.1.2 Organisation of the Federal Ministry

In managing federal administrative affairs the Federal Minister is supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology. The assignment of business of this Ministry provides that Section IV is (also) responsible for telecommunications matters ("National Post and   Telecommunications Authority"). Section IV in the Ministry is, in turn, divided into two groups (Information Management and Industrial
Inspectorate for Transport) and several departments.

Departments IV/1, IV/2 and IV/3 are responsible for fundamental telecommunications matters (in particular, national and international telecommunications policy). In addition, Department IV/2 is responsible for legal telecommunications matters (national and international telecom law). Department IV/3 deals with telecom-specific matters of information society and information technologies. Department IV/1 is also responsible for legislative and fundamental matters of postal law.

Within the scope of co-ordinating technological telecommunications matters, Department IV/4 is mainly responsible for national and international frequency management as well as general standardisation policy.
Department IV/5 is in charge of administrative supervision as well of general and organisational matters of the National Telecommunications Authority.
