In a conciliation procedure, the conciliation body tries to solve a conflict between the consumer and the provider by providing a written solution. Unlike a court ruling, the consumer and the provider must agree to the proposal for it to become binding.
In many cases, conciliation procedures offer quick and satisfactory solutions to problems. The procedures at the conciliation body are also free of charge. The consumer still has the possibility to have a problem resolved by a court. Separate guidelines apply to conciliation procedures.
