A CMS for the requirements of real editorial
operations
In parallel to the ongoing development of the ORF OK portals, the base module of ORF‘s MHP CMS was programmed in just a few months, and the CMS was constantly adapted and expanded during test operations. ORF‘s CMS can be seen as the combination of an editorial production tool and an automated packaging machine. Editorial staff has access to numerous other content sources at ORF and can use them to find suitable content for ITV products. At the same time, the texts and photos can be changed and edited in the CMS. It also allows editorial staff to define any necessary return channel features in the application. Once a page or individual report has been configured and approved by the editor responsible, the new data record is pre-programmed by the system and then exported to the portal application.
Constant fine-tuning for the applications and the different set-top boxes as well as the specific digital playout servers has turned the MHP CMS into a reliable production tool and an important building block for ORF‘s future ITV projects. This development project was only successful because we were able to test the system under realistic conditions in a pilot test over several months.
