Pilot operation for digital terrestrial television and interactive MHP applacations
MHP portal development for private television stations

The tipp3 live! betting application was implemented by Siemens after comprehensive joint planning with Österreichische Sportwetten GmbH. In addition to placing bets using the television remote, viewers were also allowed to track changes in betting odds live during a football match and to access their personal betting records using the return channel.

Content management for ITV production

In order to allow the editorial staff at the television stations to update texts and other content in their MHP portals
quickly and easily at all times, Siemens and Sony NetServices planned a central CES (Content Entry System) which the editorial staff could supply with new content via the Internet. This idea was implemented in its entirety by Sony NetServices. This allowed the text and photo content of the portals to be entered by the editors in a special screen on their own computers via an Internet connection and then sent to the CES along with broadcast times and other information. The CES then controlled the substitution of portal contents either immediately or at later scheduled times, which in some cases depended on the broadcast times of individual shows for which the additional content was developed.

The CES computer then passed this content on to the Siemens data processing center, a process which required especially close technical cooperation between Siemens and Sony NetServices.

In this context, Siemens supplied the necessary interface description in order to enable the two computer systems to communicate properly, while Sony NetServices was faced with the task of programming in accordance with the interface specifications. At the Siemens data processing center, the content broadcast by the CES was combined with the static frame data of each portal (individual design and navigation structures of the television stations). This information was then passed on via the Internet as a bundled data package to the private portal framework (also developed by Siemens) at the ORF broadcasting headquarters, after which it was finally broadcast as a constantly updated product in parallel to the television shows of ATVplus, Steiermark 1, gotv, Sat.1 Österreich and ProSieben Austria on the !TV4GRAZ channel.
