The electronic program guide EPG4GRAZ
Electronic program guides play an especially important role in the range of products offered in multimedia TV-based data services. Regardless of the transmission platform used, digitized television will allow viewers to receive an increasing number of channels. However, this development also has its disadvantages. In particular, the rapid diversification of content offered could easily end up confusing consumers with too much information. Planning which channel to watch might become extremely difficult – if not even impossible. Like the television guides offered in print media, a program guide which can be accessed directly on television will support viewers in selecting and navigating channels and provide more detailed information on specific shows.
One EPG, four channels
The more simple and user-friendly the design of these functions is and the more attractive the information menus are in the EPG portal, the more enjoyable the viewer‘s experience will become. In order to realize this objective using MHP, the project partners decided to develop an overall EPG portal for all four channels offered in the project.
The EPG4GRAZ guide was created on the basis of ITV architecture as well as the design and navigation in the ORF OK portals. The technical system partners BearingPoint, SONY NetServices and ISD were also called in for programming and technical implementation. ATVplus generated program planning data which ORF integrated into the EPG4GRAZ.
