The MHP portal set up by gotv, a music channel for young people, works like a jukebox. During gotv‘s broadcasting times on the !TV4GRAZ test channel, the test subjects were able to request songs from a pool of 240 videos; the songs were then automatically inserted in the show and broadcast to all viewers shortly thereafter. Therefore, viewers who used their remote control to choose a song were able to influence the content of gotv‘s shows interactively.
Technical cooperation for the jukebox
The gotv jukebox was implemented in cooperation with the partners Publitronic, Siemens PSE and Sony NetServices. For this purpose, a music video server was linked to !TV4GRAZ‘s broadcasting system at ORF‘s facilities. On the server, the Netherlands-based company Publitronic installed a new version of gotv‘s playout program and stored videos from gotv‘s current rotation. Siemens PSE provided an MHP application which made it possible for the viewer to order gotv‘s videos interactively and for the program to play those videos. SonyNetServices assumed responsibility for supporting the interactive MHP application, including the entry of content. In addition, Sony NetServices handled the design, which included the colors, background images, logo, typography and the graphics used.
