International Relations

RTR works internationally to build a bridge between Austria and abroad. With this, we want to represent the domestic interests of the republic, businesses and consumers and want to secure the flow of information in both directions.

Electronic communication is increasingly taking place without national borders. Goods are ordered abroad via the Internet and sent to us with a postal service provider, while on vacation we surf on the beach and at the same time a document is digitally signed. Also the video stream from a foreign provider should reach us as hassle-free as that from a domestic provider.

These things have become normal for consumers today. Behind this, however, is an intensive international cooperation in preparing the legal basis, which is very important to us. To this end, the legislature authorizes RTR as the competent authority for international work in our sphere of activity. Thus, you will find here current and important information on cross-border electronic telecommunications as well as postal and trust services.

Shaping – Collaborating – Informing

The goals of our international work are to shape, collaborate and inform. By participating in BEREC participating in BEREC and other important international institutions, RTR proactively shapes the framework, for example for digitalization. Intensive cooperation with other regulatory authorities ensures the harmonized implementation of the European legal framework to ensure equal competitive opportunities for all market participants in Europe.

RTR represents the experiences and best practices gained in Austria for discussion in various international bodies and thus promotes the international exchange of knowledge. The latter enables RTR to react quickly to international developments and to provide Austrian companies and end-consumers with the latest information.
